BOY GEORGE has credited his time in prison with improving his life "more than 100 per cent" - because it forced him to beat his drug addictions.

The former Culture Club frontman was jailed in January (09) for the false imprisonment and assault of a male escort in 2007.

And the fourth months he spent behind bars pushed the singer to attend drug dependency meetings, where he finally received the help he needed.

He says, "I went in with all the tools you learn in Narcotics Anonymous about resilience and surrender. I went to NA meetings inside. The first week in Pentonville (prison). Oh my God, I was horrified... I was like, I don't need it (the meetings), I'm fine. I'd been to one in the eighties and I just thought they were all weirdos, which is a common get-out clause for anyone in denial but I went to one. Since that day my life has improved more than 100 per cent."
