Tom Cruise is being tipped to star as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in a new movie.
Hollywood sources say the Top Gun actor is wanted to play the 81-year-old adult magazine publisher in an upcoming biopic. Film-maker Brett Ratner, who has been hired to direct the flick, is said to have sent the script to Cruise.
A source revealed: “He is eyeing the role of Hef. Cruise is tickled by the project, although no decision has been made.”
Oliver Stone was in the running to direct the Universal Pictures production, but was recently replaced by Ratner.
The film - which has the working title Playboy - will chart the life story of Hefner, who founded Playboy Enterprises in 1953.
Cruise, 45, can currently be seen on screen in anti-war drama Lions for Lambs alongside Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.
A spokeswoman for Cruise told a US newspaper: “A lot of people consider Tom for a lot of roles.”
